For the past 10 years a small group of songwriters and publishers in Northern Ireland have been campaigning for Northern Ireland to take control of it's own music licensing. Dozens of meetings have taken place and this has raised awareness with local government and public bodies. A presentation was made to Stormont on 17th April 2008. However, as the issue is complex and because devolved government in Northern Ireland has not fully settled yet no one has taken ownership of the campaign. The recent developments in the Welsh music community and the proposed debate at the Celtic Media festival will, we believe, be the catalyst for progress.
