Screening:HORSES (80mins)
Directed by Liz Mermin
What might life look like from the perspective of a horse? Not just any
horse, but a top-end racehorse in Ireland? This is the challenge Horses
takes up, following three promising, charismatic horses over the course of
one rather difficult racing year. Beautiful, unusual, and highly
entertaining, the film combines the drama of a sports movie with the
exploration of an ancient human obsession, offering a subtle critique of
humanity's quirks on the side. Official Selection Sheffield International
Documentary Film Festival 2009 "Horses is one of those films you can not
take your eyes off. I was trapped from the first frames. Horses represents
an evolution in documentary's approach to character and a filmmaker's
manifold relationship to their subject. It's not just a great film, it's a
step in a fascinating direction."
