2019 is a hugely important and exciting year for BBC Scotland with the launch of its new TV Channel in February.
The new channel, BBC Scotland, will transmit from 7pm to 12 midnight each day, broadcasting around 1,800 hrs of programming across the year.
Programming will cover all genres – Factual, Popular Factual, Scripted, Music & Events, Sport, Acquisitions & Archive and News & Current Affairs.
As result of both the volume and complexity of the required hrs, an Assistant Commissioner is sought to work alongside the Commissioning Executives, across genres.
The Assistant Commissioner plays a critical role in the commissioning process. Supporting the Commissioning Editors and Commissioning Execs in the execution of their duties – in particular compliance viewings, prioritising treatments in PITCH system and attending meetings with suppliers.
You will be an effective and responsive first point of contact for suppliers, independently handling initial rejections with tact and sensitivity, responding to individual queries, progressing and allocating ideas as appropriate, providing feedback and guidance in a timely manner.
You will also manage the submissions of all proposals and ensure that they are all submitted, and to monitor the teams’ relationship with suppliers and performance.
Are you the right candidate?
The ideal candidate will be self-disciplined and motivated to view a high volume of programmes with meticulous attention to detail. You will have an awareness of editorial compliance and tone ambitions for channel along with the ability to feed back editorial notes respectfully and in a timely manner.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of the pressures of production schedules and managing own work-load to support producers, along with the commitment and passion for content and creative awareness of how best to maximise the audiences experience of the content. You will also have the ability to build relationships and collaborations with colleagues across the business – with BBC Scotland, Network television and beyond
