BBC Wales’ weather team provides forecasts for Radio Wales and Wales Today from breakfast right through to the late TV news. Our weather service is an essential part of our output and a key driver in attracting audiences to BBC Wales. We are looking for a new part-time presenter to join the team to help deliver this service in an engaging and authoritative way.
You'll deliver forecasts (both live and recorded) mainly on radio and television and occasionally BBC Wales’ digital / social output. Some technical aptitude is required to make use of our weather graphics system and other computer forecasting systems. You'll be expected to operate basic radio equipment and undertake basic picture editing. Most of your work will be breakfast shifts and weekends. However, a degree of flexibility is expected as business needs may change.
Are you the right candidate?
You'll have excellent broadcasting skills and an ability to develop weather related stories and ideas for our output. Previous meteorological experience is desirable but not essential; some training can be given. You'll need excellent communication skills in audio, video and text, and be able to summarise the weather story for the day in a clear and engaging way. You should have a proven interest in the weather and an understanding of the needs of the BBC’s audiences on all platforms.
Teamwork is key; you'll need to be able to work co-operatively as part of a small team and will have an understanding of the BBC’s Editorial guidelines.
