It's Your Right
It’s Your Right is a transmedia advocacy and awareness storytelling project created by Athena Media to mark 10 years of the Ombudsman for Children’s Office in Ireland and 25 years of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 2014. The project includes online content channels, both audio and video, a micro website, social media and a free educational iPad application which seeks to promote the rights of the child under the UN Convention. All content and digital elements were devised and created by Athena Media. The story telling is driven by children themselves aged 5 to 18 and involved outreach projects with over 150 young people. The project website is created to enable children to learn and play. The site is access enabled, and the rights themselves are voiced and presented on it in both Irish and English by children aged 7 to 18. The right to language is explored through a video made with and by teenagers growing up in both languages. (See video here)
The project theme song ‘Shield’, is written by two teenage girls, Ellen and Carla, and they worked with the creative team to produce and record the song, in their schools, with young strings players and a children’s choir.
