FilmG
FilmG is MG ALBA’s national Gaelic short film competition that is delivered by Cànan on the Isle of Skye. FilmG aims to encourage people of all ages, but particularly young people, to engage with Gaelic content creation for the web. As well as the short films themselves, FilmG provides training and increases the presence of Gaelic on social media. With over 550 Gaelic short films available to view online, FilmG has been successful in encouraging the use of Gaelic and digital media at a grassroots level - in communities and schools - to tell stories, and thus helping to develop the talent pipeline for BBC ALBA. BBC ALBA launched the same year as FilmG in 2008 and the competition has emboldened many young people to begin their careers in Gaelic television broadcasting.
