This is the personal, harrowing story of a father’s suicide told by his son – a journalist, who one day learned that the press releases about mental health, the headlines about the rise in suicide amongst farmers in rural Wales, had become the story of his family. “We’d burned all the rope, removed all the ladders” but Stephen Hughes’ father Elfed, whose mantra was that “hard work never killed anyone” had killed himself. He’d tired of his struggle with mental health. In this documentary, his son asks what more can be done to stop the stigma of mental illness.
