Aberfan - Covering a Catastrophe

50 years after the Aberfan disaster, Felicity Evans tries to make sense of the sequence of media events which saw a nation put on the global stage as never before. This is a story ranging from heroic eye-witness accounts and chilling reportage to a lamentable journalistic failure as the National Coal Board does its best to spin its way out of a PR disaster. For many, this is the true scandal of Aberfan, as interrogation and accountability are trumped by deference.
