“The Players is the Men” (Derry 1993)

In 1993, the Derry team managed by Eamonn Coleman, won the All-Ireland Football Championship for the first and only time in its history. In 2002, five years before his sad passing aged 59, Eamonn sat down and told his story to his niece and god-daughter, Maria McCourt and in 2018, Derry’s victory became the subject of her book, The Boys of 1993-Derry’s All-Ireland Kings. Included in the book is a contribution from Eamonn’s son, Gary, who was a member of the team. This feature revolves around that famous Derry win and is interspersed with author Maria McCourt’s narration of her uncle’s words, in extracts from the book.
