Fragments of a Rebellion
Cornwall has a proud history of protest and today our county is renowned for the passion of its environmental activists. Hundreds flocked to London in October 2019 to join Extinction Rebellion on the streets of the capital. I was with them and spent two weeks documenting the anger, fear and love that motivates ordinary people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in mass civil disobedience. This unprecedented display of people power provoked a massive police response, a bewildering lack of media coverage and an outpouring of creativity, determination and solidarity. I returned to Cornwall with many hours of footage which became ‘Fragments of a Rebellion’. This documentary comes from the heart of Cornwall with a perspective shaped by growing up in a place far away from the political power of London.
