Style Brokers

The Duffer of St George began in 1984 as a small market stall in Camden, selling dead stock from Army and Navy surplus stores. Marco Cairns, Eddie Prendergast and Barrie Sharpe explain how they then rented a small shop in Portobello selling vintage men’s clothing and how later their shop went on to become a high street label. During the 80’s they became popular within the acid jazz and rare groove club scene in London. People from both fashion and music gathered to hang out on the shop’s sofa with personalities like Kate Moss, Paul Weller and Norman Jay becoming regular guests. When the noughties came around, celebrities like Noel Gallagher and the Beckhams could be seen sporting the label. This catapulted the brand into the commercial limelight. Today Duffer of St George is known as a sports wear brand within JD Sports. This film takes the audience on a journey back to where it all started and examines the changes that Duffer underwent in its first decade. It uncovers an abundance of characters involved with the Duffer story and explores the brand’s huge influence on street wear as a whole.
