Out of Doors
A special programme to mark 250 years since the first recorded ascent of the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Mark Stephen and Helen Needham climb the Ben which attracts over 150,000 visitors each year and meet some of the other walkers along the way, a first ascent for many of them. Meanwhile Euan McIlwraith learns about the history and geology of Ben Nevis. We learn it’s a mountain of two halves – but this doesn’t come without its issues and is especially demanding on the Mountain Rescue team and the local hospital.
