Mise Freshin'
‘Mise FRESHIN’ is a genre-bending show that creatively combines various strands of Irish music. The show weaves together narratives and themes that are shared between contemporary Irish hiphop music and Irish traditional folk music and other genres. At times, musical features of different genres are creatively manipulated on a turntable in order to playfully illustrate a musical point. For example, the DJ mixes the Irish traditional rhythmic art of ‘lilting’, blending seamlessly with hiphop beatboxing. Just like a scratch DJ digging out samples from dusty grooves of old records, the title of this radio show is ‘Mise FRESHIN’, remixing the title Seán O’Riada’s landmark composition of ‘Mise Éire’. With each episode, the show aims to feature and create new grooves, built from ancient Irish music.
