Our Story: Hallmuir Ukrainian POW Chapel

In this powerful episode of BBC Radio Scotland’s social history strand with Mark Stephen, he tells how in 1947, almost 500 Ukrainians POW’s were interned and contracted to work in farming and forestry across southern Scotland. Far from home, the men created a chapel in one of the corrugated iron huts. 75 years on, the tiny chapel has become a focal point for Ukrainians displaced by the recent invasion of their homeland.
