Vic Galloway - BBC Radio Scotland

The Vic Galloway Show is a weekly, 2 hour show dedicated to showcasing new and alternative music made in Scotland.  From Franz Ferdinand to Twin Atlantic, the best up-and-coming talent has debuted on the programme over the years.  The show incorporates 2 BBC Introducing acts, drawn from the Uploader, live session guests and occasional specials, mixed with upfront sounds from across indie, rock, electronica and reggae and classic reissues.

Vic also deputises for BBC Radio Scotland’s interactive request show, Get It On, which plays songs from across the decades as chosen around a set theme.  An example of that is included in the compilation.  He also regularly presents editions of The Culture Studio for BBC Radio Scotland.

After attending his first live concert by The Damned in 1985, Vic became obsessed with music.

On leaving school in 1990, Vic immersed himself in rock’n’roll. He formed a band, and busked his way around Europe for six months. Vic also worked on the other side of the music industry - writing for fanzines, setting up independent labels, and working as press and radio promoter.

From the launch in 1999 until 2010 he presented BBC Radio 1’s opt-out show, Session In Scotland, and latterly BBC Introducing.

Other work for BBC Radio over the years includes presenting Outside Broadcasts from festivals such as T in the Park, South By South West and Live 8 as well as deputising for the Marc Riley Show on BBC 6Music.   This summer he curated a week of live gigs at BBC Potterow for BBC 6 Music and hosted a BBC Introducing night at BBC At The Quay.

Vic's TV work includes T in the Park coverage; hosting The Music Show on BBC Two; BBC Four’s Caledonia Dreaming; and Channel 4’s Transmission. In June 2012 he presented a BBC Two documentary on the South by South West festival in Austin, Texas for the ‘Artworks’ series.

Last year, he published his first book on music, Songs in the Key of Fife, about the East Neuk scene which spawned the likes of KT Tunstall, King Creosote and The Beta Band.
