50 years ago, Wales witnessed one of the most remarkable election battles of the 20th century as S.O. Davies fought the parliamentary seat of Merthyr Tydfil in his late eighties. Following his deselection as the Labour candidate, he single-handedly took on the might of his former party and stood as an independent socialist in the 1970 General Election. In this programme, actor Richard Harrington from Merthyr takes a fresh look at this extraordinary and dramatic chapter in the political history of Wales and considers the echoes that reverberate today in the era of Brexit and the campaign for Welsh independence.
