Radio Galega

Radio Galega is the public radio of Galicia, whose broadcasts began on March 29, 1985. Its activity is inspired by the principles of respect and defence of the information; the promotion and dissemination of the Galician culture and language, in addition to the defence of Galicia's identity; the development of its own audiovisual production and broadcast, which contribute to Galicia's impact abroad; and, besides, it is a reflection of the Galicia's ideological, political, cultural and social pluralism. Radio Galega reached the highest audience ratings in its history in the 20-21 season. The deep renewal of its programme planning and the local information in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic have strengthened the public radio's relations with its audience. In March 2021, the public broadcaster produced outdoor programmes again, with a special five-hour Galicia por Diante from one of the main hospitals in Galicia in order to pay homage to the medical staff. The specialized programmes in the primary sectors of Galicia, Mar de Ardora –on fishing– and Ferrado e Medio –on agriculture–, were the next ones to step on Galician territory after the hardest months of the pandemic. Also, Radio Galega broadcasts every morning a live show called Pensando en Ti, based on audience participation, which is now in its 25th season. Last season broke the record for phone calls and WhatsApp voice messages sent by the audience, with more than 200 on average every night. The cultural programme planning became the main vehicle for Galician culture in recent months. In addition to the specialized content, Radio Galega received important awards for its collaborators, such as the National Poetry Award for Alba Cid. Music has been another of the backbones of the Radio Galega's programme planning during the last year. The show Lume na Palleira, about folk music, received the Mestre da Memoria Award from the Galician Writers Association and has begun in September the season where it will reach its thirtieth anniversary. The programme Galicia Emerxe brought along concerts by the main Galician music bands every week.
