Galegos D'ouro

The sound of the hoe hitting the ground echoes throughout the valleys. We hear the singing voices of men and women, as if they were memories. The hoe furrows, strikes. Another day in Douro, now a World Heritage Site, has come to an end. The 18th century changed Douro. Since then, the slopes that plunged directly into the river were transformed into terraces. The British market demanded fine wine – Port wine. Galicians were then lured into slave labor: to make dirt from stone dust. “You work like a Galician”. So it is said to this day.
