Yr Ynys Werdd Ar Yr Awyr

The second of three podcast episodes telling the bizarre tale of Welsh language broadcasting from Dublin in the 1920s. Original research adds additional layers to the history, while an expert paints a vivid picture of the pioneering programmes, their 'stars' Griffith & Owen Francis, and the reaction to them across the Irish Sea. The broadcasts were meant to embarrass the BBC into increasing broadcasting time in in Welsh, a language then spoken by around a million people. And they succeeded! It's a remarkable pan-Celtic story treated with respect, enthusiasm and humour.
