Tears, Texts and Telephone Calls
Back to winnersFive sisters from Co Armagh have spent two years living with the knowledge that a rare cancer gene runs through their family's DNA. Carriers of the Braca 1 gene have a 75% risk of contracting breast cancer and a 40% chance of developing ovarian cancer. Four Conlon sisters already know they have the gene. They've taken the tough decision to have radical surgery to increase their chances of survival. A fifth sister, Theresa, waits to find out if she also is a carrier. Reporter Marie-Louise Connolly follows the sisters as they deal with the physical and emotional fall out from this deadly gene.
