Born and raised in Cardiff, Frank‘s family origins are in Ring in County Waterford.

He is a successful songwriter, with songs such as "Farewell to the Rhondda" accepted as folk standards throughout Europe and America.

Frank started presenting for BBC Radio Wales in 1984 and has been a regular ever since. He produces and presents the folk-roots programme "Celtic Heartbeat", and co-presents "I'll Show You Mine". Frank made broadcasting history by transmitting the first ever live radio programme from the Smithsonian Festival in July as part of a simulcast for BBC Radio Wales and Radio WAMU Washington.
